• Surface preparation matters: Parts must be clean and free of oils, coolants, fingerprints, oxidation, and residues prior to blackening. Any contamination can interfere with the chemical reaction and affect finish quality.
• Rinse after blackening: Once the desired color is achieved, thoroughly rinse the surface with clean water to stop the chemical reaction and prevent over-darkening.
• Typical reaction time: After applying the blackener, allow the chemical reaction to develop. Most aluminum surfaces will darken within a few minutes before rinsing or wiping to stop the reaction. Actual time may vary based on alloy and desired finish depth.
